Secretary YSS Inaugurates 5th UT Ladakh Taekwondo Championship in Leh

Around 200 Athletes Participate; PSS Electronic Sensor System Introduced for the First Time

Leh, September 27, 2026: Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, IAS, inaugurated the 5th UT Ladakh Taekwondo Championship 2026 at NDS Indoor Stadium, Leh, today. The championship is being organised by the Ladakh Taekwondo Association with the support of Ladakh Police and Contractor Association Leh Ladakh.

Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Tsering Paldan, attended as the Guest of Honour, while renowned Taekwondo personality Master Atul Pangotra was the Special Guest. The event was attended by senior officials, representatives of various associations, sponsors, coaches, parents and sports enthusiasts.

The championship commenced with an Under-40 kg Boys Cadet bout in the presence of the dignitaries.

PSS electronic sensor scoring system introduced for the first time, providing athletes exposure to modern scoring technology used in higher-level Taekwondo competitions.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Bhanu Prabha emphasised the importance of familiarising athletes with advanced competition technology. She stated that, in line with the Lieutenant Governor’s vision of strengthening sports infrastructure, efforts would be made to procure at least one set of electronic sensors in the next year’s budget and provide shortlisted athletes opportunities to practise on the system.

She also highlighted provisions of the recently approved UT Ladakh Sports Policy, including financial incentives for sporting achievements and reservation benefits for eligible sportspersons. She urged parents to encourage children with talent and interest in sports and assured continued support from the Administration.

Around 200 athletes from different districts of Ladakh are participating after qualifying through district-level championships, providing them an opportunity to gain competitive exposure and progress towards higher-level competitions.

President Ladakh Taekwondo Association Gulzar Hussain Munshi expressed gratitude to the Administration, Ladakh Police, Contractor Association, sponsors, participating teams, officials, coaches and parents for their support. Mementoes were also presented to dignitaries and sponsors in recognition of their contribution to the promotion of Taekwondo in Ladakh.
