Secy Tourism chairs meeting to discuss traffic mgmt, other issues at Khardong La & Chang La

Leh, August 13: Secretary, Tourism & Culture, UT Ladakh, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, today, chaired a meeting on the management of traffic/parking/ deployment of police personnel at Khardong La and Chang La.

Discussion on varied issues such as the creation of dry toilets, viewpoints etc management of the existing old toilets / PCs built by the Army and installation of dustbins, collection of garbage & its disposal and functioning of SBI ATM was held during the meeting.

Secretary Kacho Mehboob informed that a team of officers from LDA, Police, JEs will visit Khardongla tomorrow and do a feasibility study. Further, he directed the officers to submit the proposal within two days. Also, directed the officers of the Police Department and VIJAYAK to coordinate for the visit so that the feasibility study can be conducted smoothly.

Talking about the maintenance, he directed the Director, Rural Development Department to hand over the responsibility of maintenance to the Panchayats. He further directed the Director, Rural Development Department to ensure collection of garbage once a week as Khardung La does not come under Municipal Committee jurisdiction.

He further informed that temporary toilets will be constructed by the Tourism Department within a short span of time.

The meeting was attended by the representative of SSP, Leh/ SP Traffic; Chief Engineer, HIMANK & VIJAYAK; Director, Tourism, Ladakh; Director, Rural, Ladakh and Exen/Architect, LDA.
