SKUAST-K Ladakh organises Ladakh 1st Agri-Tech Expo 2022

Leh, Sept 07: Ladakh first Agri Tech Expo 2022 organised by SKUAST-K, Ladakh under DST-STI Hub in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Ladakh was held at Eco-Cultural Park, Main Market, Leh today under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nasir Ahmed.

Executive Councillor, Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Chief guest, EC Ghulam Mehdi shared that apart from the scenic beauty and landscape of Ladakh, Ladakh now is getting recognised for its various agricultural and horticultural produce and products on national and international level. He lauded the dedication and contribution of research institutions like SKUAST and the progressive farmers of Ladakh for revolutionizing the agricultural scenario of Ladakh. He added that booming mushroom cultivation in Ladakh currently is an example of it.

EC Ghulam Mehdi stressed that the Hill Council is committed in its endeavours to provide necessary support and promote sustainable agriculture along with adoption of modern technologies to enhance production and livelihood opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof. Nasir Ahmed shared that Ladakh was bereft of the advantages of Green Revolution in 1960s due to the non-suitability of those technologies to the climate and terrain of Ladakh. He added that the research carried out by the SKUAST and KVK centres in the context of Ladakh along with the collaboration of the local communities has revamped farming and agriculture in Ladakh.

Sharing the vision of SKUAST for Ladakh, he added that Ladakh would be turned into largest food producer in North India with the adoption of modern technologies, support from the UT Administration and Hill Councils and the progressive farmers.

During the Expo, around 35 stalls displaying variety of food products, handloom and handicraft products, agricultural tools and machineries were installed by different allied departments of agriculture and horticulture along with several self-help groups, agri-entrepreneurs and different KVK centres and research institutes like ICAR-CAZRI, GB PANT from both the districts.

On the occasion, several progressive farmers from both Leh and Kargil districts were felicitated for their contribution. Winners of stalls in different categories such as food processing, agripreneur and allied and line departments were also felicitated.

several other officers of SKAUST-K; HoDs/Officers of various departments, including SKAUST-K, Leh, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, KVK Leh, KVK Kargil, KVK Nyoma, KVK Zanskar, ICAR-CAZRI, HMAARI SKUAST-K, Leh; GB PANT NIHE; agri-entrepreneurs, self-help groups and progressive farmers from both Leh and Kargil participated in the Ladakh first Agri-Tech Expo 2022.
