SWD Kargil, ALIMCO organize Aids and Appliances distribution camp at Shakar Chiktan under ADIP scheme of GoI

Kargil, June 14, 2023:

The Social Welfare Department Kargil in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) today organized a distribution camp of Aids and Appliances under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme of the Government of India for specially-abled persons and senior citizens at CHC Chiktan.

Executive Councilor Social Welfare, Aga Syed Mehdi Fazili along with Executive Councilor Mohsin Ali attended the event, the PO, ALIMCO, Dr Ashok Kumar Sahu, DSWO Kargil, SDM Shakar Chiktan, staff of the Social Welfare Department, ALIMCO team and other concerned attended the event.

While speaking on occasion, the Executive Councilors appreciated the efforts of ALIMCO and the Social Welfare Department for easing the problems of specially-abled people and for extending hand-holding support to them regularly.

At the outset, the PO ALIMCO, Dr Ashok Kumar Sahu said the scheme is aimed to assist the needy specially-abled persons by providing them durable, sophisticated, scientifically manufactured, modern standard aids and appliances to promote physical, social, psychological rehabilitation of specially-abled persons by reducing the effects of disabilities and at the same time enhance their economic potential.

EC Mohsin thanked the ALIMCO team for providing such appliances to the needy people of Shakar Chiktan Block and also requested to provide such appliances to the left out beneficiaries in the future as well.

Sahu informed that 480 appliances are be distributed to 258 beneficiaries which include the hearing aid, crutches, wheelchairs, CP chairs, artificial limbs and other appliances of Rs 20 lakh (approximately) in four blocks of the district.

He also informed that in the last week of April 2023, an assessment camp was organized by the ALIMCO with the support of the Social Welfare Department Kargil in four blocks of the district, which include Kargil, Sankoo, Shakar Chiktan and Zanskar.

During the assessment camp, the 258 beneficiaries were identified and in a short period of time the distribution process was initiated for the beneficiaries.

He said that it is for the first time that ALIMCO has organized a distribution camp in Kargil adding that ALIMCO is going to open Regional Rehabilitation Centre (RRC) in Kargil very soon with the support of the District Administration Kargil.

The DSWO Kargil, Sga Jamal highlighted the importance of organizing the camp besides disseminated information with regard to the measures taken by the government for the welfare of the person in disabilities.
