Kargil, December 11, 2025:
A delegation from Thasgám village, Sankoo, led by former Panch Asgar Ali, called on the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, at his office chamber on Wednesday. The team presented a series of pressing grievances and developmental needs concerning the residents of Thasgám.
Delegation Highlights Water Supply Crisis & Need for Infrastructure Upgrades
The foremost concern raised was the urgent repair of the village’s old drinking-water pipeline, which has severely deteriorated over time, causing irregular water supply and hardship for households.
The delegation emphasized that restoring this pipeline is vital for ensuring a reliable and safe water supply to the community.
They also reiterated the long-pending demand for establishing a separate Panchayat Halqa for Thasgám, noting that the step would:
Strengthen grassroots governance Improve public service delivery Help address local issues more efficiently
Additionally, the delegation requested the installation of submersible pumps at multiple locations to tackle recurring water scarcity, especially during the summer months.
Demand for Sports Facilities & Educational Upgradation
The delegation appealed for the construction of a sports ground to provide adequate facilities for youth engagement, physical development, and recreation.
They further sought the upgradation of the existing high school into a higher secondary school, enabling students to pursue senior-level studies within the village itself—eliminating the need for students to travel long distances for education.
Another serious issue raised was the removal of the ST (service transmission) line passing directly over residential houses, posing a significant safety hazard to villagers.
CEC Assures Timely Redressal & Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Development
CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon patiently heard all concerns and acknowledged the urgency and validity of the issues brought forward. He assured the delegation that:
All demands will be examined at the earliest Necessary actions will be taken on a priority basis Safety, education, and essential services remain top priorities of the Council
Dr. Akhoon reiterated LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development across every region of the district. He also appreciated the proactive efforts of Thasgám residents for bringing these important matters to the Council’s notice.
