Traffic Police organises Road Safety awareness programme at GDC Drass

 As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav a lecture on Road Safety Awareness was organised at GDC Drass in collaboration with Traffic Police department Ladakh. The programme was attended by the faculty members and students of GDC Drass and Hr. Sec. School Drass. 

A lecture on Road Safety was delivered by Sh. Mohd Rafi Giri-JKPS, SP Ladakh Traffic Police.

The programme was started by Haider Ali Askary (Assistant Professor, Sociology) who welcome and introduced the guest to the audience.

 

Through a PPT Sh. M. R. Giri-JKPS, started by outlining that the lecture is part of an effort to encourage and sensitise people especially youths to follow traffic rules during the ongoing National Road Safety Month.

 

Emphasising on the theme of the event Ahtiyat (safety) he informed the students that ‘wearing helmet, fastening seat belt and not exceeding speed limit on roads are keys of roads safety. We have to collectively respect each other’s rights. Our rights to drive on roads should not endanger the life of other commuters’ SP Traffic told the students.

 

The speaker further told the audience that in a fragile ecosystem like Ladakh we need to think of ways through which we can decongest the traffic and control the pollution level.

 

SP Traffic briefly outlined the Motor Vehicle Act amended in 2019 and highlighted the important acts and changes which has taken place. He urged them to organize awareness programmes and encourage others to make roads safer in their respective localities.

 

He also hoped that more youth would join the awareness campaign in coming days for better traffic enforcement, better facilities for pedestrians and cycling, or any other road safety measures in coming days.

 

In the Q&A session the speaker also took some questions from the students and answered them.

 

The programme was ended by Mr. Haider Ali Askary with a vote of thanks.
