Chinese National Detained in Kashmir for Travelling Through Ladakh and J&K Without Mandatory Permissions

Srinagar: Authorities have detained a Chinese national in Kashmir after he travelled across Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir without obtaining the mandatory permits required for foreign visitors, triggering a full-scale security investigation.

According to officials, the man entered India on a tourist visa intended for visiting Buddhist sites. However, instead of following his declared itinerary, he flew directly to Leh, travelled across parts of Ladakh, and later moved towards Srinagar without registering at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO)—a compulsory requirement for foreign tourists in the region.

Investigations revealed that he stayed in unregistered accommodations and visited several sensitive locations, raising concerns among security agencies. Authorities also reported that his mobile phone contained online searches related to CRPF deployment, security installations, and Article 370, which further intensified suspicion about his intent.

The man is currently being questioned to establish the purpose of his travel, the nature of his movements, and whether his activities pose any security threat.

Officials stated that the case appears to be a serious violation of Indian visa rules, with the maximum legal consequence likely being deportation, although the investigation is still ongoing.
