Kargil, Dec 23:
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, reaffirmed the Union Territory Administration’s strong commitment to empowering farmers through clean energy initiatives and reliable irrigation systems, particularly in remote and climatically challenging regions like Kargil.
During a meeting in Kargil, LG Gupta interacted with a delegation led by Sheikh Nazir-Ul-Mehdi, President Islamia School Kargil, and Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Nominated Councillor, LAHDC Kargil. The delegation highlighted the pressing irrigation issues faced by local horticulturists, especially those managing apricot orchards, due to unreliable conventional power supply.
They stressed the urgent need for sustainable irrigation solutions and emphasized the importance of solar-based alternatives to ensure uninterrupted water availability. The delegation briefed the Lt Governor on the proposal for installing Solar Submersible Pumping Systems, aimed at strengthening irrigation infrastructure, boosting apricot production, and improving the livelihoods of farmers.
It was noted that such eco-friendly initiatives would not only support agricultural productivity but also contribute to the broader economic well-being of the farming community while promoting renewable and sustainable practices.
LG Kavinder Gupta patiently heard the concerns and reiterated the Administration’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and sustainable development in Ladakh. He assured that the proposal would be examined on merit, keeping in mind public interest and the long-term development of the horticulture sector in the region.
With this continued focus on clean energy-driven agricultural support, the Ladakh Administration aims to build a stronger, more resilient future for farmers across Kargil.
