First-Ever District-Level Livestock Show Held in Leh Under National Livestock Mission

Leh, December 6, 2025:

The Sheep Husbandry Department, Leh, organized the first-ever District-Level Livestock Show/Mela under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) 2025–26 at the Panchayat Centre in Chuchot Yokma. The landmark event brought together livestock rearers from across the district to showcase high-quality breeds of sheep and goats—marking a major milestone for Leh’s pastoral community.

Dignitaries Grace the Occasion

The mela was inaugurated by Shri Rudra Goud (PT), IAS, Secretary of Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries/Industries, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by senior officials including:

Village leaders and Nambardars of Chuchot Yokma, Gongma, and Shamma welcomed the Chief Guest with traditional khataqs, expressing gratitude for hosting the first-ever livestock show in their area.

Dr. Iftikhar Hussain appreciated the strong participation from local farmers and acknowledged the Chief Guest’s support. He highlighted current initiatives, upcoming programs, and the challenges faced by livestock rearers, especially during harsh Ladakhi winters.
