Health Department organizes World Mental Health Day

 

Kargil, October 10, 2023: Health Department Kargil in collaboration with Government Degree College Kargil today celebrated World Mental Health Day at the college campus with this year’s theme β€˜Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’.

 

The program aimed to bridge the gap between existing mental health conditions and the awareness around it.

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani was the chief guest on the occasion. Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr Munawer Hussain, Medical Superintendent DH Kargil, Dr Liyaqat Ali, Nodal Officer Mental Health Section District Hospital Kargil, Dr Fatima Nissa, besides other official, students of GDC Kargil were present on the occasion.

 

On the occasion, the ADC Kargil talked about World Mental Health Day and its overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

 

He said the day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

 

MS District Hospital Kargil, in his address, said the day provides an opportunity to talk about mental health in general, addressing issues related to how to break the stigma around it and the importance of speaking out when struggling with a mental health issue.

 

He said along with the treatment gap, one must address workplace stress, help adolescents in schools along with the caregivers and families of people living with mental health issues and proactively address stigma and discrimination associated with mental health that creates barrier to access care and treatment.

 

Students of GDC Kargil presented skit and sang a song regarding mental stress. They presented a message for all to get out of stigma associated with mental health issues.

 

Earlier, Nodal Officer, Dr Fatima Nissa presented welcome speech and briefed about the objectives of organizing the program. CMO Kargil presented vote of thanks to all the dignitaries present on the occasion.
