In two separate cases District Police Leh arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances within a day.

Leh, 10th July: In its relentless pursuit to combat the scourge of drug abuse in society, the District Police Leh achieved a significant breakthrough on 9th July 2023 by arresting two individuals involved in drug peddling and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

While conducting patrolling around Spituk Football ground, a police party from Police Station Leh intercepted a suspicious car. The police party questioned the driver and as the driver showed suspicious behavior, the police party searched the vehicle and recovered about 144 grams of charas like substance and three number of small transparent polythene packets with white crystal powder suspected to be MDMA drug. The accused has been identified as Jigmat Namgyal S/O Sonam Rigzin, a resident of Phyang, Leh who is a government employee and is posted as Laboratory Assistant at Government High School, Housing Colony, Leh. In this connection case, FIR No 109/2023 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Leh.

In another case a Police party from Police station Leh, based on a reliable information, searched the Hotel room occupied by one Sabil Narayan Vats S/O Narayan Vats R/O Panjim Arambol, North Goa. During the search the police party recovered 112 grams of charas like substance, 8 grams of chalk shaped cocaine like substance and 2 number of squared shaped LSD paper like substance. In this connection case FIR No 110/2023 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been register at Police Station Leh.
In both the cases further investigation has been started and further links of peddling are being assessed.

District Police Leh is consistently making efforts to apprehend the peddlers involved in drug cartels. We earnestly appeal to the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers and to join hands with Ladakh Police in the fight against the menace of drug abuse in the district.
