Inter-school tournament begins at Taisuru

KARGIL, OCTOBER 01 2022:

The inter-school tournament organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports UT Ladakh started today at Zonal Headquarter Taisuru.

Zonal Physical Education Officer Taisuru Mohd Ishaq Jarnail kicked off the tournament at the opening ceremony in presence of Tehsildar Taisuru Sajad Hussain who was chief guest on the occasion.

ZEO Panikhar Akbar Ali attended the opening ceremony as the guest of honour. Moreover, the Principal HSS Beama Yahya Ali, incharge BMO Taisuru, SHO Taisuru, Headmasters from all High and Middle Schools were also present.

The department received a massive response from the young players of different government and private schools of the Zone.

For the 3 day-long-tournament, 72 teams with 580 boys and 500 girl players of Under-14 and Under-17 age group from 36 government and private schools will showcase their performances in volleyball, handball and athletics.

In his speech, the ZPEO highlighted that the UT Administration has boosted the development of sports infrastructure under SDP in Taisuru zone.

He reminded that a sports stadium at Khawous, a divisional level ice hockey rink at Yuljuk is under construction under SDP which will be ready by the end of this year. Similarly, a pond ice hockey has been constructed under SDP at Kargee.

The DYSS has developed sports infrastructure at two Higher Secondary Schools, six High Schools, fourteen Middle Schools, and four Primary Schools of Taisuru.

The department has also issued a large bulk of necessary sports and games equipment to the schools to further boost the sports culture in the zone.

The ZPEO requested DYSSO Kargil and the District Administration to fill-up the vacant posts of PEM/PETs in various schools on fast-track basis.

 

He further stressed on young players that being athletic and sportive is the need of the hour. He said there is no dearth of talent and youth have represented Ladakh at various national games in the country.

 

Sajad Hussain advised the players to take part in every physical, activity and maintain their cultural identity at different levels.
