Inter School tournament for Hr Sec Schools of Leh concludes

Leh, Oct 27: The Inter School Tournament for Higher Secondary Schools of Leh district (girls’ category) concluded at Open Stadium Spituk today, in the presence of chief guest Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh, Tsering Angchuk and guest of honour Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse.

The Inter School Tournament for Hr Sec Schools of Leh District 2022-23 was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Leh. In the girls’ tournament, 13 schools from different parts of the district participated in various games viz football, handball and track and field events like 100m, 400m, 800m, and 4x100m relay race among others.

Addressing the gathering, Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk appreciated the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Leh headed by DYSSO, Tsering Tashi for successfully conducting the Inter Higher Secondary School Tournament. He also stressed the need of promoting sports and physical activities in the schools and nurturing talents from a young age and instructed the principals/headmasters to organize sports day or sports meet in schools and also at blocks/ zonal levels.

He added that the Council would deliberate on providing training to the PET/PEMs and necessary support for the promotion of sports.

During the closing ceremony, the final match of football was played between Govt Hr Sec School Diskit and Tangtse, in which GHSS Tangtse won by three goals in a penalty shoot-out. Similarly, the finals of the 100m, 800m, and relay races were held.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners of the different sporting activities held from October 24 for the girls’ category.

Chief Education Officer, Leh, S D Namgyal; Principals/ Headmasters and PET/PEMs of different GHHS of the district; officers and officials of DYSS, Leh were present on the occasion.
