World Food Day Celebrated at Government Model Middle School Biathang

KARGIL, MAY 07: World Food Safety Day was celebrated at Government Model Middle School Biathang, in collaboration with the Food Safety Department Kargil. This year’s theme was “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected.”

The event was graced by Nayeem Ahmad Lone, Designated Officer of the Drug and Food Control Organization Kargil, as the Chief Guest, and Er Ahmad Ali, Founder of LOGIC, as the Guest of Honour.

One of the highlights of the celebration was an Ethnic Food Festival organized by the students, aimed at promote awareness of local organic foods. Headmaster Gulzar Ali emphasized that the festival’s goal was to educate students about the benefits of local organic foods.

In addition to the food festival, students performed a play contrasting healthy food and junk food.

Nayeem Ahmad Lone commended the initiative, noting the importance of promoting healthy eating habits in today’s junk food-centric world. He also elaborated on the role of the Food Safety Department in ensuring food quality and safety.

Er Ahmad Ali highlighted the benefits of organic food production, especially as Ladakh aims to become an Organic Union Territory. He encouraged the use of locally produced foods over commercially available alternatives to ensure better health and sustainability.

On this occasion Food Safety Department donated a Magic Box Testing Kit which will be used for all types of initial rapid testing.

The event concluded with the administration of the Food Safety Day 2024 Pledge, reinforcing the community’s commitment to food safety and healthy eating practices.
