1st Buckwheat Flower Festival commences in Leh
Leh, September 11: The 1st Buckwheat Flower Festival organised by the UT Ladakh Administration and LAHDC Leh, in collaboration with Skitchan Kunfun Deton Festival, Skurbuchan, commenced at Skurbuchan village today. This two-day festival is a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence.
Executive Councillor (EC), Agriculture, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel, inaugurated the 1st Buckwheat Flower Festival in presence of Councillor Skurbuchan, Lundup Dorjai and officers and staff from the concerned departments and the villagers.
EC Agriculture Stanzin Chosphel shared that the Buckwheat Flower Festival has been organised to promote the importance and significance of buckwheat. He added that buckwheat has immense medicinal values and health benefits with the potential of exporting to both domestic and international markets.
EC Agriculture said that the Buckwheat Flower Festival would also boost tourism in the region. He stressed that the LAHDC Leh would provide all possible support in terms of subsidies to promote the cultivation of buckwheat in the district.
Stalls with various products prepared from buckwheat and other farmers produce were on display for the public.
Dr Tsewang Namgyal, Dr Konchok Tashi and Deputy SSP Tundup Dorjay, who had won the Disney Conservation Hero Award 2020, Fox Clues Top 100 Authors and Educationist Award 2020-21, and President Police Medal respectively, were felicitated for their achievement during the event.
