BRO Unveils Six Key Infrastructure Projects in Ladakh Under Project Vijayak

Ladakh, Dec 7: In a major boost to border connectivity and national security, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) today inaugurated six significant infrastructure projects under Project Vijayak. The launch formed part of the nationwide dedication of 125 strategic assets by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, with the main ceremony conducted virtually from Leh.

Harka Bahadur Bridge Inaugurated at Hardass

The regional event was held at the newly completed Harka Bahadur Bridge in Hardass, located along the historic Silk Route. The 90-metre bridge was formally opened by CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr. Mohammad Jaffar Akhone, accompanied by MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan, senior officials from the Army and GREF, district authorities, councillors, and local residents.

Six Major Assets Dedicated Under Project Vijayak

The newly inaugurated structures include:

Harka Bahadur Bridge (90 m) Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC Setu (65 m) at Shilikchey on NH-1D Darchik Bridge (50 m) Hanu Lungpa Bridge (35 m) along the Khaltsti–Batalik–Kargil Road Upgraded Leh–Chalunka Road Improved Kargil–Dumgil Road

These projects aim to enhance military mobility, improve border-road reliability, and accelerate socio-economic growth in remote regions of Ladakh.

Leaders Acknowledge Transformative Impact

MP Haji Hanifa Jan highlighted that border infrastructure has seen a “transformative boost” under the current government, greatly benefitting both national defence and local communities.

CEC Dr. Jaffar Akhone praised BRO and Project Vijayak for their consistent service, especially their efforts to reduce disruptions caused by winter closures at Zojila Pass. He congratulated the people of Hardass for finally receiving a long-awaited bridge and emphasised the enduring bond between the people of Kargil and the Indian Army.

Strengthening Ladakh’s Strategic Landscape

With the commissioning of these new assets, Project Vijayak further reinforces its role in strengthening national security infrastructure while supporting long-term regional development.
