Ladakh Extends Early Bird Incentive for Electric Vehicles Until March 2027

The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has announced a significant extension of the Early Bird Incentive (EBI) under the Ladakh Electric Vehicle and Allied Infrastructure Policy, 2022. The incentive, which offers subsidies and rebates on the ex-showroom prices of electric vehicles, has now been extended until 31 March 2027 with immediate effect.

The extension comes under Order No. 20-Trans(UTL) of 2025, issued by the Transport Department.

Reason for Extension

According to the order, electric vehicle adoption remained low in Ladakh after the initial incentive period ended. However, with the rollout of supporting policies—including the Ladakh Vehicle Scrapping Policy 2025, and establishment of Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) along with new EV charging stations—the administration expects a boost in EV usage.

The Planning, Development & Monitoring Department has also approved continued use of subsidy funds under the policy.

Demand From Transport Stakeholders

Transporters and EV stakeholders across Ladakh had demanded an extension of the EBI so more residents and commercial operators could benefit. The administration acknowledged the demand and approved the extension to ensure wider uptake of electric vehicles.

Legal Provision for Extension

The order states that Para 7.1 of the operational guidelines under the Ladakh EV Policy empowers the UT Administration to amend or extend policy provisions as needed.

Official Approval

The extension has been ordered with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, and signed by Bhupesh Chaudhary, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Transport Department.

The order was further endorsed for record and publication by Dr. Mohammad Usman Khan, JKAS, Additional Secretary.
