Apricot Blossom Festival begins in Kargil district, first program held at Garkone
Kargil, April 06, 2024: Department of Tourism Kargil today organized the first program of Apricot Blossom (Chuli Mendok) Festival in Garkone village in Kargil under the banner of 3rd Apricot Blossom Festival.
Assistant Director Tourism Kargil, Rehmatullah Butt was the chief guest, Assistant Tourist Officer Rasool Lal, Airport Authority Director Leh Ramandeep Singh Sani, and officers from Indian Army Col. Rajesh Sahu, Col. Aman Mehta, Col. Dinesh Tanwar, Incharge Police Post Darchiks, Abdul Qayum attended the program besides a number of national and international tourists, vloggers, village community members, folk artists and villagers were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the AD Tourism Kargil emphasized the significance of these culturally enriching programs. He highlighted the potential for tourism in regions like these, where diversity in language, culture, and ethnicity stands out uniquely in the world.
Emphasizing the significance of organizing the festival, the AD noted that Garkone and its neighboring villages are renowned for producing high-quality apricots in the district. He urged the community to actively preserve their rich identity and cultural heritage.
Explaining the high potential of Aryan belt in attracting tourists around the world, the AD Tourism said this festival will send out a positive message to the rest of the world.
He further said that along with the unique landscapes of Ladakh, tourists during the festival will also have an interest to have a glimpse of local tradition, culture and food.
Assistant Tourist Officer said the District Administration is committed to extend all possible support to push for the export of apricots to national and international markets.
Meanwhile, colorful cultural programs were presented by artists of Garkone, Darchiks, Sanachay, Bodh Kharboo, Hordas, Yuldar and students of Govt. High School Garkone that enthralled the audience.
Apricot Blossom Festival is being held across Union Territory of Ladakh from April 06 to April 18, during which visitors can witness the mesmerizing blossom of apricot trees and display of its products.
