Leh, December 5:

Lt. Gen. Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), met the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, at Lok Niwas, Leh, to review key strategic infrastructure works and upcoming projects aimed at strengthening road connectivity and boosting tourism across the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Lt. Gen. Srinivasan provided an update on preparations for the upcoming inauguration of the Shayok Tunnel by the Hon’ble Defence Minister—an important milestone expected to greatly enhance all-weather connectivity in Ladakh.
He also briefed the Lt. Governor on progress under BRO’s major projects—Project Himank, Project Vijayak, and Project Yojak—which continue to play a vital role in Ladakh’s border infrastructure development.

A key highlight of the discussion was the Nimmo–Padum–Darcha Road, described as the shortest and strategically significant route connecting Ladakh with Himachal Pradesh. The DG BRO shared that the Tangtse–Lukung Road has now been completed, while the Khalsar–Agham–Shayok Road is approaching completion, with only a minor section pending.
Lt. Gen. Srinivasan also presented a proposal to double-lane the Lukung–Chushul Road, a move aimed at strengthening both adventure tourism and battlefield tourism, thereby improving accessibility to remote and historically important locations.

In addition, the Lt. Governor was informed about the construction of a BRO-run cafeteria along the Pangong Lake route, which will offer improved amenities for tourists and travellers.
The Lt. Governor praised the BRO for its outstanding contributions, noting that their infrastructure initiatives have significantly improved connectivity across Ladakh and have played a transformative role in opening isolated regions to development and tourism.
